Wedding in Paradise

picture1Hello Jill and Carole,

I just wanted to take a quick minute to say “Thanks!” for all the help you provided in setting up our surprise wedding vow renewal.  It was quite a memorable and unforgettable experience.  Pakala was the perfect location and the ceremony had the perfect mix of religious and traditional Hawaiian content.

Here’s a little history on the whole event…  Technically, I never asked my wife to marry me.  A trip came up in Vegas and we decided to get married when planning that trip. Of course, my wife never let me forget I didn’t ask her to marry me.  After planning the wedding vow renewal ceremony with Weddings in Paradise, I kept my plans under wraps until the day of the ceremony.  No friends or family knew of my plans.  I also made dinner reservations at Roy’s in the evening following the ceremony.  After we arrived in Kauai, I still hadn’t planned how I would get Barb to Pakala without ruining the surprise.

The day before the ceremony, a friend called me when he realized we were in Kauai.  He told me we had to visit Pakala.  “It’s a remote beach and nobody will be there.”  What a coincidence.  With my wife overhearing the phone conversation, I played dumb and asked him for directions.  I then told Barb we should go watch the sunset at Pakala then go to dinner.  I crossed my fingers and hoped she didn’t question my logistical plans of leaving Poipu Shores, driving by Roy’s (2 minutes away) to go to a remote beach (1/2 hour away) and return to Roy’s while being dressed up. Thank God she didn’t question my decision.

When we arrived at Pakala Beach, I saw Carole.  Fortunately, the skinny trail leading to the beach was narrow and caused Barb and I to walk single file.  This gave me a chance to signal Carole without Barb catching on to anything.

I started into my sentimental conversation, dropped to one knee, and asked Barb to marry me again.  She laughed at first and said, ”Are you asking me now since you never asked me in the first place?”  After convincing her I was serious, she said “Yes”.

We walked along the beach and saw the small ceremony set up by Mark and Carole.  Of course, there was supposed to be nobody at this beach, right?  I acted disappointed about this so I told Barb, “Let’s go see what they are doing.”  Mark’s response was “We are preparing for a small wedding ceremony” and Carole replied “Actually, it’s a wedding vow renewal ceremony” and smiled at Barb.  As Barb looked around and realized everyone was looking at her with a smile, she knew this was for her and she broke down in tears.

This is the first time she has ever been totally surprised.  As the ceremony continued I read her the vows I had typed out.  While the ceremony was in progress, Carole was gracious enough to take some great pictures with our camera.  Five minutes after the ceremony was completed, the rain came down in buckets.  That’s a whole other part of our adventure.

This ceremony scored me major points with my wife and the family.  Except now, all of the married men we know, hate me, but that’s something I’m dealing with J.  Barb still can’t believe I planned this as it’s not something I would usually do.  I actually got this idea from my friend’s wife during a camping trip in July.  Barb will never remind me that I never asked her to marry me.

You made this memorable experience so easy to setup and very much feel I had the family from Weddings in Paradise helping me out.  Please note… I am one very happy customer!  Here are a few of the great pictures Carole took.

With sincere thanks,
Dave
